Find Used Honda Civic GX Cars in
Utah
The Honda Civic GX is one of the
"greenest" vehicles for the 2004 model year. The
Honda Civic GX is a unique vehicle in that it is
powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), and this
means it is a high efficiency, almost zero emissions
used car. The Civic GX is runs on a standard Honda
Civic LX body. The only fossil fuels it uses is 3.5
quarts every 10,000 miles. So, how do you fill up
your car? In some parts of the country, including
Utah and California, there are public filling
stations. Filling up from a public CNG station
usually involves a 3 – 4 minute quick fill with
higher temps, already compressed volumes and the
more common CNG pressure of just 3,000 psi. The
problem with the GX, for some is finding a filling
station within range of where this used car can
drive. If you do not live anywhere near a refilling
station, then the alternative would be the Phill.
Phill is an affordable natural gas refueling
appliance that provides drivers of the natural
gas-powered Honda Civic GX with the convenience of
refueling their vehicles at home using an existing
natural gas supply. Although Phill can cost up to
$4000, there are often tax credits and rebates
available to offset most of the cost. To fill the
vehicle it takes about 16 hours. For many with the
Civic GX, they simply plug the vehicle in to the
Phill overnight, and it is ready to go un the
morning. The advantage of a filling station is that
the GX will fill much quicker.
This used car has a typical
Civic ride. The Civic is certainly no luxury
vehicle, and it does not exactly drive like
one. The GX handles well, and if the tires
are the original manufacturers, they will be
Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) Bridgestone
B381’s. LRR tires are much better for fuel
efficiency, but not as good traction as non
LRRs. So, this vehicle is great on the paved
road, but do not try to do anything silly,
like racing it. Also, rated at just 100
horsepower and 98 pound-feet of torque, the
GX is 15 hp shy of the standard
four-cylinder Civic. Driving this used car
may feel strange at first, as the rpm are
nearly level even during acceleration.
Accelerating from zero to 60 took 12 seconds
which by today's standards is very slow. The
2004 Civic GX’s range is advertised at 220
miles. With a slow fill to a full 3,600 psi,
the GX’s range could be expanded. The space
inside the Civic GX is decent; rear legroom
is unaffected, even though trunk space is
diminished by the larger fuel tank. Since
this is such a unique used car, the fuel
gauge and re-fueling station location were a
higher priority concern then they would be
with a gasoline or diesel vehicle. Despite
the limitations imposed by the problem of
such few refilling stations, the GX is a
real-world alternative to rising fuel costs.
Finding a used Civic GX would be an
excellent alternative than seeking out a
hybrid, and it has earned it worthiness as a
valuable, useable, everyday vehicle.
