primarily on skiing. Salt Lake City was host to the

Information For Salt Lake City Used
Cars: Safety
Whether you drive your used car by
yourself, or are transporting your family, safety
should be a top priority in used cars, especially
since they might not have the most technological
features. Crash tests Frontal- and side-impact crash
tests are conducted by two groups. When you find a
model you are interested in check the ratings of it,
there are several different categories vehicles are
tested in.
Blind zones injure and kill children
every year because drivers don’t see them while
backing up. A contributing factor is that some
larger vehicles have larger blind zones--the area
behind a vehicle that the driver can’t see. It is
a good ides to check the blind zone on your used
car. Sit in the driver’s seat of the parked
vehicle while someone stands in back and holds out a
hand at about waist level. Have the person walk back
slowly until you can see the hand through the rear
window.
It is true that rear-enders have a
low fatality rate, but they do have a high injury
rate, mostly whiplash neck injuries. The design of a
used car’s head restraints and seats are critical
factors in how severe a whiplash injury will be.
For every accident with used cars
there are many near misses that statistics don’t
reflect. Different vehicles have different avoidance
capability. The two most important factors are
braking and emergency handling. Make sure your used
car is sufficient in this area.
A little known safety hazard is from
power windows. Children, in particular, can get
caught while leaning out the window. Some vehicles
have rocker- or toggle-type power-window switches
that will raise the window when they are pressed
down or forward, and this is a risky design. It is
best to get a used car that has a lever switch,
which raises the window only when it’s pulled
upward.
