About Used Chevy Silverado Trucks
in Utah
The Chevrolet Silverado was renamed
and redesigned in 1999. But Chevy’s philosophy is
that consumers who buy trucks want something with
truck styling, not SUV, sedan, or anything else. So,
when this used truck got a makeover, the style of it
was not radically changed. Still, it is steps ahead
of its predecessor, the “C/K†truck. It stops
quicker, handles better, has more power, rides
better, it is faster, more and comfortable. That is
a pretty drastic improvement with a vehicle that
remains true to its design. This is one used truck
that feels like luxury. It has four wheel disc
brakes that are sufficient for the trucks power, and
it comes standard with ABS. The fuel economy range
for the Silverado is 20 mpg on the highway, and 16
mpg in the City. It has a basic towing capacity of
8,700 lbs. The 2001 version, adding on to its remake
of 1999, adds even more power, convenience and
durability. There is an extended-cab models that
used truck buyers may find, which has two auxiliary
rear doors. An option for the extended-cab 1500s was
a Pro-Tec composite box, which is known to resist
dents and corrosion. This is a nice bonus feature
for a used truck. Later model Silverado trucks
include OnStar. The truck was made with either two
or four-wheel-drive, with standard-length and
extended cabs, and with short (6-1/2-foot) and long
(8-foot) bed lengths. There are three trim levels
that can be found when shopping for your used truck:
the base, the LS, and the LT. Full-width Fleetside
beds are standard on all models, and some short beds
have a stylish and retro Sportside instead. There is
a variety of payload capacities that were offered on
the 2001 Silverado. The ''half-ton'' range includes,
both the 1500 series, with actual payloads ranging
from 1593 to 2334 pounds (depending on bed, cab, and
drive configuration), and the heavier-duty 2500
series with payloads in the 2612-3224-pound range.
To add on to the list of options, there was also a
1500HD model with a crew cab body produced.
Silverado 1500 models are available with a 4.8-liter
V8, a 5.3-liter V8, and a 4.3-liter V6. Only the
2500 was powered by a 6.0-liter V8. The base truck
features a five-speed manual gearbox, but more
popular was the 4L60 and 4L65, which features
four-speed automatics. These include a delayed up
shift mode for towing, and have proven themselves to
be superb transmissions. The frame on this used
truck is one of the stiffest and lightest of its
time. The front frame rails are hydro formed, (a
process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape
relatively large and complex components that used to
be fabricated from smaller stampings). Tubular cross
members and roll-formed mid-rails increase the
rigidity even more. Especially good handling, ride
quality, and crash safety can be attributed to this
very stiff structure. This is a used truck with
incredible roominess in its interior. Its doors and
door openings are some of the largest in the
industry. The Chevy Silverado is often considered to
be among the best full size pickup trucks. It is
smooth, quiet, and, even on the base model, very
well equipped.
